BEST YOU CAN BUY (NOW) – ANTONIO AZZUOLO

We don’t pretend you to buy those mitten gloves if you don’t feel like ( LOVELY,  isn’t it ?) but this is simply the best parka jacket  you will  find around during fall 2011, so don’t forget about it. It  comes from Canadian born  designer, now Newyorker,   Antonio Azzuolo who has all the statements to be the next big American Designer.  He worked at Ralph Lauren’s Black and Purple Labels, at  Hermès and at  Kenzo , so he perfectly knows what he is doing . He also happens to be the son of a tailor, so cutting an excellent jacket is not a mystery to him.  Best you can do for Fall, is having an Antonio Azzuolo piece.

THE ART OF DRESSING HAIR : SERGIO VALENTE

How many men have you met who are truly devoted to their work? How many men have the fortune of living their work like living a true, beating passion?

Sergio Valente is one of those.

He has dedicated his life to his career. He is one of the people who have made the greatest contribution to maintaining the high status of Italian fashion on the international scene, by exalting taste, refinement and beauty. The distinctiveness of his art conveyed in his work allowed him to become the most sought-after hairdresser by the big names in fashion: Valentino, Versace, Fendi, Ferrè, Mila Schon, Capucci, Lancetti, Sarli and Dolce e Gabbana. He has been the hair-stylist for Valentino’s first American fashion show, at the Hotel Pierre in New York. ROME FASHION WEEK 2011 – ALTAROMA ALTAMODA –

Rome with its immense cultural heritage is increasingly considered as an additional reference point in the firmament of Italian artistic creativity. Its mission is to represent a place where historical sedimentation and cultural fusion are broken up and then recomposed in order to coexist within a new dynamic equilibrium.Fashion and savoir faire, the skill of hands that create marvellous objects.Rome’s cultural heritage, where art represents a universal mark that carries that sense of manual work and material culture.

Elitism has been following performances, catwalks, events of the 19th edition of AltaRomaAltaModa, held from J uly the 8th till the 11th. Starting from an exciting pre-opening of Mario Testino’s TODO O NADA exhibition at the Fondazione Memmo, celebrating the expressive force of this amazing photographer. The A.I. Gallery project, five artisan artists capable of expressing contemporary creative trends, have showcased their works at five Roman art galleries located in the old Roman Ghetto. An itinerary whose aim was to express the profound link that exhists between fashion and art. The fusion between fashion, art and design, i.e. artisans, their skills and handcrafting. Who is on Next? One of the most authoritative competitions for the scouting of new talents, launched on the world of market. Created and organized by AltaRoma and Vogue Italia.  Eleven finalists divided between prêt-a-porter and accessories.KM3d-1, a short 3d film, presented at the Hadrian Temple, starring Kate Moss. The modern portrait of an icon, represented as a legendary goddess, whose image is revealed throught an explosion of hundreds of Swarovskis. Ommissioned by AnOther Magazine, and developed by creative director Jerry Stafford, the film is directed by Baillie Walsh. It’s a journey into experimental, multi-dimensional image making.

AltaRoma, a crossroad of avant-garde, culture and fashion.

RAGGED KINGDOM by JAMIE REID

Ye of the Plough, Ye of the Bower,
Ye of the Mill and Ye of the Tower,
Ye of the Way and Ye of the Tree,
Ye of the Stars and Ye of the Sea,
Rise Up to the Cry of the Commoners Storie,
Our Ragged Kingdom – a Kingdom of Glory!

Anon (Trad)Jamie Reid is world renowned for his work with the Sex Pistols, but there is so much more than this. Reid’s collaboration on the Suburban Press (1971-1975) was an early coalescing of his political convictions and artistic intuition, and his output after the implosion of the Pistols extended his artistic drive through many genres – music, publishing, performance. After a long creative residency at the Strongroom Studios in Shoreditch he has, for the last ten years, immersed himself in a daily painting practice to explore and reveal the Aspects of the Eightfold Year (www.eightfoldyear.org). BEST YOU CAN BUY (now)

Emil Congdon is designer and creator of his own leather line called Emil Erwin. Born in Nashville Tn,  at a very young age he realized that in the era of poor quality products he wanted to make something different. Excellence  was his main intent and  beside creating a happy family – They are my daily motivation and the heart of Emil Erwin – he  started a small business in leather accessories.   Bags, purses and walltes  that a  Park Avenue spoiled shopper gal  would definitly buy (if she only knew that the monogrammed era is over).

We therefore are happy to present  the Erwin Messenger (photo above)  in our Best You Can Buy: it is an example of fervor,  a masterpiece .   It is made with leather from Horween Tanner in Chicago, English Bridle Leather precisely. Buckles and rings are stainless still and it is  stitched with Mil-Spec B138 and B277 nylon thread.  Love and care are inside its many pockets and the intent of lasting more than two lives is taken for granted. PA’s gal, wake up!

A YEAR OF ELITISM

Dear readers, a year ago Elitism was born. Needless to say we are very proud of it and that Elitism is, for us, a living creature. In this short period of time we have constantly tried to be different, impractical, and fight against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the ordinary. We wanted to thank you for reading us, spreading our articles and recomending us. We want to thank all the designers, stylists, photographers, architects, bikers, directors, writers, painters and artists that transform our work into a pleasant journey! An avalanche of Thanks from us all.
