GENERAL PUBLIC LIBRARY

The General Public Library is a library/reading room project, organized by Mylinh Nguyen, which will be accessible as an online resource as well. To start the library, Mylinh Nguyen invited designers, publishers, curators, artists, galleries, and musicians to contribute publications to the project that reflect the donor’s practice, methodology, inspiration and interest. Visitors are encouraged to donate a favorite book to the library during the exhibition.

Mylinh Nguyen approaches the idea of a library with a unique focus on participation and the formation of community. In contrast to a traditional reading room–which can only be accessed for the duration of the show—the online catalogue of the General Public Library allows each visitor to browse and curate their own library within an existing and continually growing catalogue, beyond the physical installation…

The phenomenon that is CURVY began in Sydney, Australia in 2003 as an annual book and exhibition series championing the work of some of the most exiting female graphic artists and illustrators on earth.

CURVY collaborates with women from across the globe – from the art and design hotspots of Paris, London, NYC, Sydney, and Tokyo to the lesser-known but equally powerful centres for creativity in countries such as Mexico, Moscow, Norway, Malta, Israel, and Indonesia.

From 6 to 16 June the capital of Denmark hosts the Copenhagen Photo Festival. The event was founded in 2010 to focus on photography and present significant Danish and international contemporary photography in urban space, art and cultural institutions, galleries and schools. The aim for Copenhagen Photo Festival is to create an international platform for contemporary photography in Denmark.
The program of exhibition is dense, and includes new and known danish photographers like Rasmus Weng Karlsen, Ken Hermann, Jacob Gils, Patrick Bouillaud, Jesper Palm, Martin Sobral, Ebbe Stub Wittrup and Marius Badu.

Homepage Festival has always been dedicated to the exploration of new musical and visual languages.
With the improvement of the area related to the Visual Arts, it was born the need to structure a path of literacy within the production of sounds and images in a time characterized by the multiplicity of languages and by the constant overlapping of stimuli.
For that, soundmotion born: it’s a topical project that brings together the artistic search with the advanced utilization of new technologies, thanks to the contributions of experimental young artists from the international contemporary world. The music contaminates with new film and video languages, in a dreamlike and surreal journey that lends itself to increasingly deregulated uses and to a funnel of consciousness.
Soundmotion is a festival in the festival, an occasion to highlight the qualitative approach, aimed to create a complete sensory experience for the audience. It’s committed to the creation, to the dissemination and to the encouragement of the development of visual and sonic area in contemporary research. Curious and fascinated, overlooking the fascinating world of sound, with its creative potential and with its closely with technology and other arts.

KICK-HEART

 

Kick-heart is the new short film directed by Masaaki Yuasa. Yuasa is an indipendent and brilliant artist able to tranform reality through a playful imagination and a wild free form style. In 2004 Mind Game gave him more than a reputation in the realm of animation and Yuasa’s talent keeps on shining so far.

Kick-heart is presented as “a love story between Romeo, a successful pro wrestler, and Juliet, a nun who lives a secret double-life as a female pro wrestler. Romeo’s secret is that he enjoys taking a beating in the ring, while Juliet feels invigorated when facing her opponents as a wrestler. When the two meet in the ring, the fireworks fly. Their story is set in the colorful backdrop of the professional wrestling world. Will Juliet reveal her true identity to the one she loves? Will Romeo be able to share his secret to the world? “

The short was produced through crowd funding via Kickstarter, and in collabortion with Production I.G.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY – NO IMPACT MAN

Yesterday was the World Environment Day and the theme for this year was Think.Eat.Save, an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your footprint and in general a more sustainable way of living.

It is not a secret that while the planet is struggling to provide us with enough resources to sustain its 7 billion people (growing to 9 billion by 2050), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that a third of global food production is either wasted or lost.

Many initiatives have been promoted around the world to inform and drive us to a smarter way of living: Think before you Eat and help Save our environment!

A good reading to celebrate such day could have been No Impact Man, a book inspired from the project embraced by Colin Beavan, a journalist living in New York City, and his family, which decided to “live deliberately” out of a system of mass consumption and waste, where believe it or not we all participate; in other words no trash, no food waste, no elevators, no subway, no car, no products in packaging, no air-conditioning, no television . . . but a huge return in a life more “eco-effective” and above all in an authentic, happier and genuine life.

AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS

 

David Lowery’s Ain’’t Them Bodies Saints evokes the mythology of westerns in a story of outlaw lovers set out across the Texas hill.

Lowery said: “I wanted this whole movie to have the texture of, like, an old piece of wood that you’d find in an abandoned house, and that’s sort of what we strove for.”

Drawing his inspiration from the movies of the ’70s and following in the footsteps of Terence’s Malik Badlands and of Bonnie and Clyde, the filmmaker recreates a lyrical tale about love, loss and fatalism. The film stars Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Ben Foster in the leading roles.

In 1973, Australian illustrator, communicator, jewellery-maker to the stars, and certified (by me) genius Heath Carter was born. Born, it seemed, with a pencil in his hand.
From an early age, Heath made use of this birth-pencil arrangement and drew. A lot. And often, never straying from his weapons of choice; pencil and paper. Like many souls drawn to a life of servitude to art, Heath left his natural master temporarily, to serve others of which, or whom, we will not discuss right now.
